Introducing... Curly Tree

Well, as I was saying in my last post this new set goes with my favorite theme of stamps.. did you guess what it was?  Trees. For some strange reason I am totally and absolutely drawn to trees.  I love our set Roots and Wings and it is definitely one that I reach for anytime that I'm in a slump! But NOW, Curly Tree may have taken top spot in the tree area. I just love the filigree feel to the branches which are softened by the curls. There are 18 stamps in this set which you can use separately or mix and match as needed to express just what you need to say.

Here is a little card I put together using the Curly Tree set. I went with a shabby look this time, so shabby I almost lost the little strip at the top right there!

I first took the tree image and inked it up with my lighter brown color, then sponged the stamp with darker ink around the edges. I stamped it off on a scrap piece of paper before stamping it onto my focal piece to get the lighter effect. I inked the edges and then roughed them up with my scissor edge. I took my sewing machine and did a tight straight stitch around the edge... I pulled out some of the thread to make it look just a bit shabbier. I then added the hearts stamped in red randomly on the tree branches to make them look like the fruit of the tree. I added some red stickles onto them to give it a little bling.

I stamped the larger heart, stickled it too and then cut out the heart with scissors. I threaded it like a button and then added a button on top.

I used the "love" sentiment and inked it in red and then sponged a bit of brown onto the stamp before I stamped it on the card to make it a bit distressed.

The diamond piercing was done by first using my Scor-pal, and then piercing in the lines.

boys and their tires!

Hello! I have been busy around here! Not just designing stamps and creating with paper (although that is some of it!) but the yard and the house! Spring is in full swing here (finally) and I am taking full advantage of it! I've done my gardens and greenhouse and have even gotten a head start on the closets in the house (every mom's dreaded nightmare of changing over the seasonal clothing! Eek!).  I have spent a bit of time in my crafting room so I do have a few things to post for you after the release!

I can't WAIT to show you the sets for June, but alas I will hold off until Monday morning!! You are going to lahaha-HOVE them!  The one is so fit for all occasions and just because cards that it will compliment a lot of our other sets as well! Plus one of the key images fits into my category of favorite themes! You will see what I mean when you catch a glimpse!

Although I don't have any creations to share today I thought I'd  post a picture that I took of my son, Liam, playing with a tractor tire his dad brought home to build a sandbox from. 

I love how this turned out and I can't wait until I get a few seconds to sit down and scrapbook it! I love how the dirt on his face totally adds to the innocence! My how fast they grow!!!

Old favorite revisited!

Hello everyone! It was a long weekend here in Canada and it was gorgeous! We travelled to BC, to my hometown, and visited family and old friends and saw a lot of fun and sun. I had a little too much sun though, being fair skinned like I am I should know better! We're home now, back to the cooler, unpredictable weather.

I pulled out one of my old favorite sets Roots & Wings and put together this little card, notice how I inked the tree image and stamped it upside down to create the roots for this card (click on the image to enlarge). I think it made a perfect compliment to the sentiment.

So much going on with RBD lately, thank you to everyone helping make this all possible! Last weekend was a hit thanks to Oasis Scrapbooking and them allowing us to take up some of their space! Lots of magazine sightings coming up so keep your eyes peeled!!

Losing my mind!

Hi folks!

So I had a very cute card prepared for you for today but do you think I can find it!? I used the leafy image in the Home Sweet Home set to make a topiary... it turned out great, but I cannot find it anywhere!!! I had it with me at the trade show and I haven't seen it since then!! That'll teach me for not photographing immediately after I have created!!! Once it turns up you can bet I'll be posting it!

I'm working on a Mother's day project as well, and I hope to share that with you tomorrow!

Now for some good news!  I've just updated the Idea Gallery with a bunch of new photos! Keri Lee and Lea L. have been creating like crazy, I can't even try to keep up with these pros!!! They will have the RBD gallery full in no time!

We have caught a bit of a bug here, the whole house is sneezing and passing the tissues!! No swine flu, just the regular run-of-the-mill type here!!  Hope you're all having a great week!!!

Also new for May 2009...

Well, I've shown you one set already for may, now here is part two! A great set for all of your teacher's gifts and cards... not to mention school scrapbook pages!  It is called A is for Apple. The apple image is just adorable in this set and so versatile with the gingham and plaid patterns which can be overstamped on top of the solid image. I've also included the cut apple view of the "flesh" of the inside of the apple. At first it took a bit to figure out how to get it to look the way I wanted (ie. White with the red skin) but I've found that by stamping the inside of the apple in Versamark and then heat embossing in clear before stamping the red solid image on top works the best in acheiving this effect. After you've stamped the solid image over the embossed middle, simply take a Q-Tip or damp tissue and carefully wipe off the ink from the embossed portion of the apple.

Here I've taken one of our 8 oz clear top tins and used it as a planter for this little apple tree I started from a seed.

I stamped the apples in a random pattern around the container.

If you've never started an apple tree from a seed before it is a great project for your child to do with you. I find the best way is to take a seed from an apple (be sure to check if they grow in your region if you plan to plant them outisde eventually) and slice into it with a sharp knife, not quite severing the seed into two halves. Then, take a wet paper towel and place 3-4 of these split seeds in the wet papertowel and fold a few times... I use about a half sheet of paper towel. You want enough paper that it holds the moisture but not so much that you can't see the seeds through the paper towel. Place these on a tray and place in the sunshine by the window. Keep the paper towel moist and within about a week the seeds will sprout. Once you see the little sprouts, transfer them to damp soil in small pots or egg cartons and keep them moist. Then simply plant them into the container of your choice to give as teacher's gifts or to plant in your back yard when they mature. Your children will love the idea of growing their very own tree!

Check back for an ADORABLE educational project using this set (hint, it uses the numbers included in this set), which is especially great for a preschooler learning to count or a little one learning to add or subtract or multiply.  I know you'll love it!!!  Have a great weekend everyone!!

Introducing.... Home Sweet Home

Happy May everyone!  Finally things are warming up around here!!  The first set I want to introduce to you today is called Home Sweet Home.

This set was designed with new home owners in mind.  I've just used the "love and laughter" sentiment on these cards here today, but throughout the next couple of weeks I'll be showing you projects using more of the images from this fabulous set.

I used the faux scallop technique here again using the scalloped circle for a variation on the look.

I love the way these came out. Check back for more ideas using this set!
